Practice — The Final Step
Adjustment of Status
The application that makes you a permanent resident from inside the United States — the I-485, filed when a visa is available, and carried through biometrics, interview, and decision.
I-485 · I-765 · I-131 · I-693 Medical · I-864 as needed
Confirm eligibility
Basis, visa availability, and admissibility are checked against the current Visa Bulletin before anything is filed.
- Approval notices (I-140 / I-130)
- I-94 & visa history
Build the package
The application assembled in one submission — work and travel documents filed together where eligible.
- I-485 application
- I-693 medical exam
- I-864, where required
- I-765 & I-131 (work & travel)
Biometrics & interview
Biometrics are usually scheduled within weeks of filing, then the interview — we review the record with you beforehand.
Decision
Approval means the green card. A request for evidence gets a full response — you hear from me at every milestone.
Who it is for
People already in the United States with an approved (or approvable) immigrant petition and a current priority date — including those eligible to file the I-485 concurrently with their I-140 or I-130. Work and travel documents can often be filed in the same package.
- EB-1, EB-2, and EB-3 green card applicants
- Family-based applicants with a current date
- Those needing an EAD or travel document while pending
The requirements
Three things control the filing: a valid basis (an approved or approvable petition), visa availability under the monthly Visa Bulletin, and your eligibility — lawful admission, maintained status where required, and admissibility. We confirm each before anything is filed, because timing mistakes here are costly.
Can I file the I-485 with my I-140?
Concurrent filing is allowed in certain employment-based categories when a visa is immediately available. We check the current Visa Bulletin before deciding whether to file together or wait.
Can I work and travel while it is pending?
With the EAD and advance parole approved, yes. Travel while adjustment is pending carries case-specific risks — we weigh any trip before you book it.
Will there be an interview?
Most employment-based adjustment applicants are interviewed now. Preparation is part of the case: we review the record with you beforehand.
