Practice — Supporting Documents
Employment Authorization & Travel
The documents that keep your life moving while the main case is pending — the work permit (EAD) and the travel document (advance parole), filed correctly and renewed before they lapse.
I-765 · I-131
Confirm the basis
We confirm the eligibility category — pending I-485, a qualifying status, or another basis — before anything is prepared.
- Receipts & approval notices
- Status documents (I-94, visas)
Prepare the application
The forms drafted with the supporting evidence the category requires — often alongside the main filing.
- I-765 work permit
- I-131 travel document
- Photos & government ID
File & biometrics
Filed with the right fee or waiver; biometrics scheduled, tracked, and attended on time.
Receive & renew
The card or document arrives — and we track renewal dates from the day it is issued, so no work or travel window closes.
Who it is for
Anyone whose status or pending application makes them eligible — most commonly those with a pending adjustment of status, who can apply for work and travel documents in the same package as the I-485. Eligibility always depends on the underlying basis.
- Adjustment applicants needing work or travel while pending
- Categories whose status itself permits work authorization
- Anyone holding an EAD approaching expiration
The requirements
Each application must cite the eligibility category it rests on, and the evidence follows from that category. Travel on advance parole carries risks that vary by case — departure while a case is pending can have consequences, and we weigh that before recommending any trip.
When should I renew my EAD?
File before the card expires — a gap in authorization is exactly what a well-timed renewal avoids. We track renewal dates from the day the card is issued.
Is it safe to travel on advance parole?
It depends on the case. Leaving while an adjustment application is pending can carry consequences, and re-entry is never guaranteed. Plan any trip with me before you book it.
Does an EAD change my status?
No. The EAD authorizes employment within your existing status or pending application — it does not confer or replace a status on its own.
